Athlete You Would Let Your Daughter Date: Tis the Season for Giving

It’s that time of the year many of us are thinking about shopping, holiday sweaters, and spending time with our friends, family, and loved ones. It’s the time of the year many of us also think about Bowl games and playoffs. But, it’s also the time to think about others and especially children.

For this edition of Athlete You Would Let Your Daughter Date, we highlight Andre Johnson. He is #80, the All Pro Wide Receiver for the Houston Texans, as well as a real life Santa Clause. For the 9th year in a row, Andre Johnson took children from the Child Protective Services on a 80 Second shopping spree.

11 kids got to run wild for 80 seconds through the isles of Toy’s R’ Us, to grab whatever they could fit in their shopping carts. The kids also got assistance from many of the Texan cheerleaders. They also got gifts to give to their siblings, all courtesy of Andre Johnson. The bill for this years extravaganza exceeded $16,000, but the total smiles from this day far exceeded this dollar amount.

During the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, blaring horns from rude holiday drivers, and the constant regurgitation from the talking heads on which sports teams have failed their expectations for this season, it is calming to read a story about good. The Christmas Holidays can be stressful times, and sometimes it’s easy to focus on things we want. I am glad to see athletes like Andre Johnson treating kids to a magical day, and bringing joy to their lives.

I tip my Santa Hat to you, Andre Johnson.

Merry Christmas to all!
