Brews of Summer: Weekend Series Match-Up #4

Finally, it’s the weekend, Thank God!

This weekend I was reminded of a few things. I saw this brilliant goal by Lionel Messi and was immediately struck by a realization.

I remembered the reason we watch sport is to see the amazing, to see the unbelievable, to see the Matrix-like-reality-bending moves. We don’t watch sport to see watered down mediocrity. But, thanks to ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, ESPN U, Fox 1, and a host of other sports networks we have access to average sports 24 hours a day. We really don’t need this. ESPN, the self proclaimed “World wide leader in sport,'” showed the Spelling Bee. That’s not a sport. Nope, not at all. Good try, but NO.

We watch sport to see the best athletes make the impossible possible. We want fantastic. We want brilliant. We do not want watered down bullshit, like the spelling bee. In this  same regards sport is like beer. We don’t need to watch every single game over the weekend, just like we don’t need to drink an entire case of beer. Instead watch one game, drink a couple of good beers. Make the game you watch a great game, and make the beers you drink fantastic (and high ABV doesn’t hurt).

We continue to celebrate the “Brews of Summer,” and the “Boys of Summer,” this week with the beers from Devils Backbone and Blue Mountain Brewery. We asked you, the reader, to put in extra time driving from Richmond to enjoy the majestic views from Nelson County while enjoying these fantastic brews. Now ask you an even more difficult question, which beer do you prefer? It’s time for another series of winners in “Brews of Summer.”

Hope to see you at Devils Backbone basecamp and Blue Mountain Brewery sometime soon for great beers, breathtaking views,  and entertaining tales. Remember to be responsible, plan ahead, and assign a designated driver.

Remember to be kind to friends and strangers, and get outside to do something adventurous!

Enjoy Sports Responsibly!
